The role of caregiver is an incredibly demanding one, even if you are caring for someone that you feel deeply for. Being a caregiver for a loved one means that you are responsible for the following, but not limited to:

  • Personal care: bathing and grooming, dressing, toileting, and exercise.
  • Basic food preparation: preparing meals,
  • Errands like shopping,
  • Housekeeping, such as laundry and cleaning and
  • Medication management and assistance.

What is respite care?

Respite care is fundamental to support you and your loved ones while caring for them. The intention of respite care is to provide you, the primary caregiver, with a well-needed break. The aim is to give you the chance to get some well-needed rest or simply a temporary break from your responsibilities.

Respite can give you the chance to go on holiday or day trips, with or without the person you are caring for. In some instances, if you’re going on holiday without the person you care for you might consider them staying in temporary accommodation, such as residential care. However, this is not always the most suitable choice. Our home care services, or live-in care services, will give you the same full service of care without the person having to leave the comfort of their home.

Types of respite services

Respite care can give you the opportunity to share the responsibility of the person you are caring for. But it also gives you the chance to take a personal moment for yourself. Respite care could be something that you agree with friends and/or family or it could be a professional carer. It can give you the chance to take a break for personal activities, like to go to the gym, play a round of golf or tackle a chore, like shopping. Essentially it should give you the chance to do something which can’t be done with the person needing your care.

Respite could be something that you decide is occasional or it could be on a regular basis.

What respite care services do Clarendon offer?

Clarendon can offer home care services and live-in care services. All of which are bespoke and tailored to your needs. You may initially decide that home care is the direction you’d like to take and we could provide a carer on a regular basis to help you care for your loved one. Or you might like to take the opportunity to have a live-in carer who can take much more of the responsibility from you so that you can better enjoy the time you spend with your loved one. Some of the services we provide within our live-in and home care services are:

  • Personal care: such as bathing, showering, toileting and dressing.
  • Safety: anxiety caused by a fear of falling can be alleviated by round-the-clock care or by someone checking you on a regular basis.
  • Help in the home: housework, laundry, shopping, preparing meals and running errands
  • Getting you out of the house: for activities with friends or for a nice walk

A Clarendon Carer can help you and your loved ones gain the confidence to leave the house safely and to live in your home safely. They’re your second pair of hands and aid you to live a dignified life at home.
